ABOUT THE TINY HOUSE B.I.G BOOK

Flippingthrough

The Beginner’s Illustrated Guide to a Complete Tiny House Build will cover everything from buying the right trailer to building a sleeping loft. The information is presented in a beginner-friendly format that is easy to read and pick up intuitively. By the end you should feel relaxed relocating a window, putting up trim and picking out a hot water heater. And if you already have some building experience, this guide can help you adapt those skills to the unique construction of a tiny house on wheels. You can join the DIY tiny house movement today!

CONGRATULATIONS! YOU ARE A BUILDER. Maybe you have never cut lumber with a chop saw or determined the pitch of a roof, but nevertheless, YOU are a builder. After all, you are looking into this guide, which means that you have more than a passing interest in making your own home. It is time to transform that curiosity into a working skill set. Soon you will stand a little taller when you hear someone use a term like “subfloor” or “rigid foam insulation,” knowing you can jump into the conversation at any time.

Included in the guide is the complete set of framing plans for our project: Yonder Tiny House. Without a background in construction, framing plans can look intimidating. It can be hard to imagine how the lines and numbers on the page will somehow transform into a standing structure, but demystifying the entire build process is at the heart of this book. We want you to gain enough knowledge to feel comfortable using our plans, interpreting another set of plans, or even designing your own from scratch. To that end, our plans can be used as a roadmap or simply as a learning tool, and we have also included access to a 20-minute video that shows how these tiny house framing plans come together to make a home.

Some written resources assume the reader already has building experience. The Tiny House BIG Book does not. It does assume, however, that you have a fire in your gut, a few bucks in your pocket and a strong desire to get started. Building a tiny house on wheels is a big undertaking, but after months of carrying around lumber and nail guns, everything else will feel lighter in your hands.

You may not have control over everything in this crazy life, but with some hard work and vision you can create a space where you have control over most of it. And that, my friends, is a pretty darn good feeling.

Welcome Home.
